The Tomte Cake Bätter blog featuring The Tomte Cake Set and Christmas tradition.

What to Do While Your Tomte Cakes Cool

Cooling time does not have to be the awkward pause in a family baking night. In fact, it can become one of the coziest parts of the tradition. Once the cakes are out of the oven and safely set aside, use the wait for a few simple activities that keep the Christmas feeling going without exhausting everyone.

Read or revisit the story

The Tomte Cake Set includes a storybook and recipe. If you did not read the story before baking, cooling time is a natural moment. If you already read it, ask the kids to retell their favorite part.

Set up the decorating table

Let children choose the bowls, sprinkles, frosting colors, and simple decorations while an adult organizes the tools. This turns waiting into preparation for the next stage.

Make cocoa or another warm drink

A warm drink gives everyone a reason to sit down for a few minutes. Use the pause to talk about favorite Christmas memories or what each person is looking forward to this year.

Take a short Christmas-light walk

If the cakes have enough time to cool and an adult can safely manage the kitchen, a quick walk around the block can reset restless kids. Keep it short so the evening still feels like one connected activity.

Play a low-key Christmas game

Try holiday charades, a Christmas “would you rather,” or a family trivia question. You do not need a full game night. Ten minutes is plenty.

Write in the family tradition journal

If you keep a Christmas journal, record the date, who is participating, or what decorating theme the kids chose. Save the “who found Tomte” entry for later.

Do nothing for a little while

Not every minute has to be programmed. Let the kids play, put on music, or simply enjoy the smell of something baking in the house. The quiet parts are part of family traditions too.
