Early Christmas Shopping for Grandparents: What to Order Before the Rush

Grandparents are often shopping for more than one generation at Christmas. That can mean several children, multiple grandchild households, different states, and a mix of gifts that are opened together or mailed separately.

Starting early makes that complexity much easier to manage.

Begin with gifts for entire households

A family gift can simplify shopping because one package creates something everyone can share. The Tomte Cake is one example: the story, baking, decorating, and Tomte surprise become an activity rather than another individual toy.

Order long-distance gifts before local gifts

If one family lives nearby and another lives across the country, handle the long-distance household first. You have fewer variables with gifts you can hand-deliver yourself.

Think about the visit date

If grandchildren are visiting before Christmas, a family activity gift can become part of the visit. If they live far away, grandparents can send the set early and join story time or the final Tomte reveal by video.

Choose gifts that create a reason to connect

The most useful early-shopping question may not be “What do they need?” It may be “What could we do together?”
