Empowering, innovative, and driven–these are just a few words that come to mind when we think about the incredible women-owned businesses that have graced the stage of Shark Tank. As advocates for female entrepreneurship, we’re constantly inspired by the tenacity and vision these entrepreneurs bring to the table. In this blog post, we’re shining a spotlight on five remarkable women-led companies that not only captured the hearts of the Sharks but also embody the spirit of resilience and creativity. Join us as we delve into what we at The Tomte Cake love about each of these inspiring women-led businesses.
We’re all about natural fibers here on the Tomte Cake team and when we saw these new 100% cotton disposable diapers made with other sustainable materials, we knew the sharks would bite. Mom, and MIT/ Harvard University graduate (ok smarty pants), Amrita Saigal, saw an opportunity to build a better disposable diaper that wasn’t full of harsh chemicals or plastic, and Kudos Diapers was born. Amrita pitched her idea on ABC’s Shark Tank and sharks Gwenyth Paltrow and Mark Cuban both offered her the $250,000 investment.
Whether you’re a seasoned breastfeeding mama or a first-time mother, we can all agree that nursing a baby in the hot summer months can be, well, very sweaty. Say hello to Lady Alpha by Jacqueline and Jeremy Samuelson, the ONLY breastfeeding cover in the world that provides airflow. The unique nursing cover has an integrated fan to keep you and your baby cool during those hot summer months while nursing on the go. Barbara Corcoran thought it was a cool idea too and offered $100,000 on ABC's Shark Tank.
Toss out your everyday can of boring tuna and say hello to the beautifully designed, ethically sourced, and delicious canned fishes from Fishwife. Founded in 2020, this female-led food company sources directly from healthy fisheries and certified aquaculture farms to deliver premium canned seafood to the tables of North America. Co-founder Becca Millstein appeared on Shark Tank in 2023 and the sharks were hungry for her high-quality fish. Becca struck a deal with both Candace Nelson and Lori Greiner for the $350,000 investment she was seeking.
Natural deodorant sounds like a great idea until you are in a sweat-inducing sprint across the airport to catch your flight or making heart-pounding sales pitches to a TV studio full of Sharks on Shark Tank. Have no fear, Curie is here to save you from embarrassing smells with a natural deodorant that actually works (gasp)! In 2018, Sarah Moret launched Curie, a clean deodorant and body care brand for humans, in motion. The sharks smelled the sweet smell of aluminum-free deodorant victory, and Sarah bagged a deal with Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran for a $300,000 investment.
Just like mother earth, we like our bug spray natural, too. When we step out for our summer hikes, we love to bring along Kinfield a clean, plant-based bug spray and sunscreen made safe for the people and the planet. Fueled by her love for hiking, Nichole Powell started Kinfield to inspire happier and healthier lives through the great outdoors with clean products that actually work. She appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank in December 2023 and the sharks went into a feeding frenzy for the DEET-free products. Nichole accepted a joint investment from Barbara Corcoran and Tony Xu of $250,000.
From Kudos Diapers’ eco-friendly approach to Lady Alpha’s innovative nursing cover with integrated airflow, Fishwife’s commitment to ethically sourced seafood, Curie’s game-changing natural deodorant, to Kinfield’s plant-based bug spray and sunscreen, each company female entrepreneur embodies the spirit of resilience and creativity-just like our founder Miranda Vaughn.
Miranda and The Tomte Cake first appeared on Shark Tank in December 2023 when she pitched The Tomte Cake to the sharks and landed a deal with Kevin O’Leary. Today, Miranda focuses on growing her business and creating more Christmas magic for families.
